The Design Criteria
The designs that were submitted highlighted the theme of ‘eco innovations’ with an emphasis on an ecologically sustainable and biologically diverse garden. Throughout the design consideration was given to the use of recycled and reclaimed materials, how natural resources would affect the use of the garden and also what would contribute to the wellbeing and enjoyment of the garden owner when using the space. The environmental impact of the garden construction and maintenance was also considered in the selection process.
The Competition
The application process stated that all designs were to be submitted by 1st February 2013. All of these were reviewed by an RHS Garden Selection Panel consisting of design, landscape and horticultural experts. From the many submissions they looked at, the panel shortlisted it to six entries. It was these six candidates who were then invited to London for an interview with the panel members, here they gave their presentations so panel members could see and hear the latest details contained within each design. As a result of this stage of the selection process, three candidates emerged as the designers heading for the Tatton Park Show 2013.
